David Carmel
Co-founder, Jumpstart
During his senior year in college, David discovered that building literacy skills in a child’s early years was vitally influential to their future success. Seeking a way to address this, he co-founded Jumpstart, a non-profit organization that pairs college students and community volunteers with pre-schoolers from low-income households. Throughout the one-year program, children are provided with one-on-one mentoring and exposure to reading.
David speaks with Jessica Harris about America’s literacy problem and how an idea grew into an organization that provides support to thousands of young students, from scratch.
